Black Lives History Timeline: 2020 - Ahmaud Arbery

2020: Ahmaud Arbery killed
Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old university student, was out jogging in his neighborhood on February 23, and was confronted and pursued by two white men, Travis and Gregory McMichael. They chased him and shot him, the whole event filmed by a third William Bryan. The Police Department did not arrest any of the men, saying they were told not to by the DA. The McMichaels said they believed Arbery was responsible for a string of thefts in the area, and gave that as their excuse for shooting him. The men were not arrested until May 7th because of the interference by the DA. She is now under investigation because of this interference. The preliminary hearing for the case was held June 4th. Hate crime laws are still being considered in this case.

Most people reading this will be aware of how many deaths there have been since and before Ahumad's death. George Floyd (Change), Breonna Taylor
(Change), Philando Castile, Freddie Gray, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and Eric Garner, to name far too few, but my next post will focus on another event eight years before this one.
