So another long-overdue update. But then, the last three months have been highly intense, as I'm sure everyone agrees. Christmas was lovely, and I got a few books from my family. The one I'm the most excited about is Octavia's Brood, which I've wanted to read for a while. That will be fun to read, I think. I also got the Totally Geeky Guide to the Princess Bride by Mary Ann Johanson, which should be lots of fun as well. The last book I got, which will be very interesting, is Ace by Angela Chen. Definitely a must read for me.
Last year's theme of fairy tales and retellings definitely got me through one of the worst years I have ever lived through. I got to read and listen to a bunch of stories that I absolutely adored. My overall favorite was A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas. I should have read it much sooner. Truly, I love the sequel more than the first, but they're all wonderful. I'm looking forward to her sister's story, coming out next month. I can't wait to listen to that. My top three runners up were Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge, A Heart so Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer, and the Princess Will Save You by Sarah Henning. I am rather amused at myself that three of my top four books are all Beauty and the Beast retellings. It doesn't surprise me at all, though, because I'm very fond of Beauty and the Beast retellings, and have been for a long time now. But if you like Beauty and the Beast, I highly recommend the first three, and if you like Princess Bride, definitely check out the Princess Will Save You.
I'm also pleased with how listening to Audio Books affected my reading numbers. I went from 40 to 50 to 60 before I stopped upping my numbers. But I didn't stop reading once I hit 60, so I ended up with a total of 70 books read last year. I'm quite happy with how that turned out.
This year, my focus has turned to finishing off some of the series I've started. And given how many series I've read over the years, I've got a LONG way to go. But at least that means I won't run out of things to read. Because of how well Audio books affected my numbers, I set my Goodreads challenge goal to 80, but as of right now, I have already finished 19 books. So... I'm fairly certain I will go above that this year, but I'll wait until I get to 60 before I up it again, because things could still go wrong. But I have already caught up on one series, finished a prequel that was published last year, and actually finished one series, so my reading is going quite well so far.
- The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood #12) by JR Ward - 2%
- Jim Henson's Labyrinth: Coronation #3 by Simon Spurrier (no page numbers, unfortunately, so I am not sure exactly where I am, but I have started it, at least)
- The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus #5) by Rick Riordan - 53%
- Specials (Uglies #3) by Scott Westerfeld
- Kushiel's Justice (Imriel's Trilogy #2) by Jacqueline Carey
- Mirror, Mirror (Twisted Tales #6) by Jen Calonita
- Bitterblue (Graceling #3) by Kristin Cashore
- The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials #2) by Philip Pullman
- Cruel Crown (Red Queen Prequel) by Victoria Aveyard
- Unhinged (Splintered #2) by AG Howard
- Rebel (Legend #4) by Marie Lu
- Golden Son (Red Rising #2) by Pierce Brown
- Circus of the Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #3) by Laurel K Hamilton
I've been listening to tons of Audio books, so there will be a flood of reviews coming, but I will limit them to three a day so I don't overwhelm everyone.
